  Race Beneficiaries

The YPD BLUE 5K – Run for a Reason benefits the following causes:

Holly Young Volleyball Scholarship at D-Y Regional High School

Each year, the Yarmouth Police Relief Association selects a local group or organization to support, in addition to supporting The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and YPRA causes.

This year’s beneficiary is the Holly Young Volleyball Scholarship at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.

Holly Young was an outstanding DYRHS student and athlete who became seriously ill but never gave up and never gave in.  She always represented herself and community in an exemplary manner and fought every battle and never surrendered.  The Yarmouth Police Department has always had a strong relationship with DYRHS and our youths and she was an outstanding role model and someone we can and should honor.

In addition to being a gifted student and a volleyball and track talent at D-Y, she was also a star athlete on the University of New Hampshire volleyball team. While battling cancer, she was an active supporter of Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund. Ms. Young died of cancer in January 2008.

Direct contributions to the scholarship fund can be made to:

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund

The mission of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund is to generate increased public support for the law enforcement profession by permanently recording and appropriately commemorating the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers; and to provide information that will help promote law enforcement safety.

The YPD BLUE 5K – Run for a Reason is scheduled during the same week as “Peace Officers Memorial Day” which is held every year on May 15th.
